New York Greek Wedding Photographer and Sweet 16

Greek Wedding Photographer Dimitrios Panagos makes the comment that it is one thing to be a photojournalist and another to shoot like one. Many photographers who shoot weddings write that they shoot photojournalistic style, what does that mean? I have been a photojournalist for over 30 years. Can someone who shoots weddings on weekends (having a day job)consider himself a photojournalist? I ask that question. As a News Photographer you aquire these styles over the course of your career. The words are used very loosly, what can anyone believe? New York Greek Wedding Photographer, Dimitrios Panagos who photographs Greek Orthodox Weddings in New York and Long Island is up for the match. Wedding dates for 2009 are still available. Enjoy the Sweet 16 photos from this post. Katerina's Sweet 16 was shot here on Long Island at the Water Mill Inn in Smithtown.

Greek Orthodox Wedding Traditions, Stephana

The Crowning is the centerpiece of the Eastern Orthodox marriage ceremony. Garland wreaths are often fashioned into ornate crowns as a symbol of glory and honor. Crowns can also be made of orange blossom, myrtle leaves, semiprecious stones and metals, or threads of gold and crimson, which represent the royalty of marriage. The koumbaros presents the couple with two crowns joined by a white ribbon, symbolizing the couple's unity. The priest places the crowns on the couple's heads while they face the altar, then the koumbaros swaps the crowns on the couple's heads three times. According to ancient custom, the crowns are to stay with the couple for life (some couples are even buried in them!)

The question Dimitrios just got was the meaning of stefana, or stephana in the Greek Orthodox Wedding. The Crowning is the centerpiece of the Eastern Orthodox marriage ceremony. Soho Reception hosted by John Varvatos

A few friends well over 200 turned out for a Reception hosted by Fashion Designer John Varvatos at the Varvatos Soho spot on Spring St. Prominent Greek Americans in attendence included Businessman John and wife Margo Catsimatidis, Gregory Pappas of Greek America Foundation, Fr. Alexander Karloutsos, Chef Michael Psilakis and many more friends. Greek American Photojournalist was on hand to capture the right images which eventually turn out in major Newspapers and Magazines. Dimitrios Panagos is also a Great Greek Wedding Photographer, since his photojournalistic approach to weddings is unique. In the first photo Patricia Field designer, DJ Matheos, and Evangelos. John Varvatos with Chef Michael Psilakis. John Varvatos poses for Dimitrios while in the last photo John Catsimatidis, John Varvatos, Gregory Pappas, Consul General of Greece Aghi Balta, Margo Catsimatidis and Fr. Alex pose for photo.

New York Greek Wedding Photographer Dimitrios Panagos looks at the new digital cameras that are out making wedding photography much easier and lighter. Lighting is still a issue. Digital cameras need more light and better and faster lenses. The brides white dress is the target of the light which makes it a priority before hitting skin tones. Young photographers who are shooting weddings need to study this and make many trials and learning from the pros. When is time to design the album many photographers have problems with the lighting and the contrast if it is not controlled from the start.
A few years back when film was king, labs could fix these mistakes, but now with digital the problem does not go away. DP

Getting Ready for the Wedding season

The Wedding Season for the Greek Ammerican Community is around the corner. New York Greek Weddings is preparing for the busy season. Weddings in New York are very hot and most fun. The music goes on till early morning hours as the guests dance to the Traditional Greek Dances. The Greek American Bands are never tiring as they play to every wish of the wedding guests. The North Ritz Club in Syosset, long Island is a very busy catering hall filled with Greek music every weekend. Terrace On The Park on the other hand has as many as seven Greek Weddings per weekend.

As the 2008 presidential election draws near, Lovetripper takes a look back at the wedding of the ABC News Chief Washington correspondent who will be covering the event as history unfolds November 4th, former political adviser George Stephanopolous:

Colleagues of the ABC network, Peter Jennings was accustomed to reporting the news of the day while Barbara Walters ruminated over events with her co-stars on The View. On November 20, 2001, however the TV icons became the news as they took their seats alongside 200 other guests in the pews that line the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Manhattan and waited for the start of one of the most prominent occasions on New York's social calendar that year-- the wedding of George Stephanopoulos, the former adviser to President Clinton, and actress Alexandra Wentworth (known to TV trivia buffs as "Schmoopy" from an episode of Seinfeld).

Candlelight illuminating their path, two cherubic flower girls in white carried bow-adorned baskets down the aisle as junior bridesmaids crowned with white blossom wreaths followed close behind before the bride made her grand entrance in a lace accented, silk Vera Wang creation, People magazine reported. Smiling as she passed by familiar faces such as model Paulina Porizkova and political commentator James Carville, she walked toward the altar where her groom, dressed in a dark Gucci suit, waited to make her his wife.

Having proposed on a Greek isle, the groom further honored his heritage by asking his father, a Greek Orthodox priest, to preside over their union. Once proclaimed Mr. and Mrs., the bride displayed her recently-acquired dancing skills at the reception as she performed traditional Greek dances with her new family.

GREEK ORTHODOX WEDDINGS IN NEW YORK AREA

There is a growing need for Greek American Photographers. Dimitrios Panagos , Greek American Photojournalist from New York and Long Island is now available to photograph your wedding. All Greek Orthodox weddings are not the same, especially when one of the two is not Greek Orthodox which sometimes creates many differences in the way you photograph them. There are many Traditional Customs that Greek Americans have and carry with them from the old country.
The Koumbaro or Koumbara at a Greek Orthodox Wedding must be of Greek Orthodox faith, especially when they will also be asked to Baptize their first born.
